Arrowverse star Melissa Benoist has offered Milly Alcock some key advice ahead of her DC Universe debut in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow film. With DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery working on James Gunn’s DC Universe, multiple iconic characters will be reimagined for the big and small screens. One of them is Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl, with House of the Dragon’s Alcock set to be the latest actress to portray her in a cinematic franchise after Sasha Calle’s short run in the DCEU.
In a new interview with Collider, Benoist was asked how she personally handled the responsibility of playing Supergirl as part of the Arrowverse and what she thinks could help Alcock, who will be headlining the upcoming Supergirl movie in 2026. The Supergirl star stressed that she would keep in mind the audience she was making the show for throughout her time playing the Girl of Steel, sharing the following:
That’s a really good question. I think what always drove me while working on that show was the audience and who I knew I was making the show for. Of course, I know that she is an iconic character that spans many generations of fans, but the people that I was making that show for while we were making it were young women, and if I kept that in the forefront of my mind, it always made everything palatable.
When Supergirl Will Next Appear In The DC Movie Timeline
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one of the next big priorities for DC Studios and was one of the first Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters” movies to be announced in January 2023. Based on the DC comics by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be directed by Craig Gillespie, while the script was written by Ana Nogueira. King, who is part of DC Studios’ creative initiative, is working on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as an architect, most likely in a consulting role.
Earlier in 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav said that they are currently working on additional Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow casting, although which characters will be part of Kara’s film remains to be seen. Principal photography for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is reported to take place later in 2024 and will be shot throughout 2025. DC Studios and Warner Bros. Discovery have also scheduled Kara’s solo movie to be released on June 26, 2026.
While Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is currently set to be Alcock’s official DC Universe debut, there have been reports suggesting that she may show up even earlier, in David Corenswet’s Superman movie in 2025. Given that they are cousins, it would make sense for Alcock’s Supergirl to show up in some capacity in Superman, especially if it helps set up Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Hopefully, as the year progresses, more updates will emerge on Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow sooner rather than later.
